Purple and Gold

For starters, if you say your colors are purple and gold then you should actually where gold. The saints, for example, wear black and GOLD. LSU, however, wears purple and YELLOW. Thats probably why I don't like LSU, because their YELLOW.

But, the reason why I bring this up is that Friday was Spirit day at Hahnville and the teachers and students were encouraged to wear purple and gold to support the team. I however, do not own anything purple and gold (I also don't own anything purple and YELLOW). So, I wore a blue shirt because I sure as hell wasn't gonna go out and buy something with purple and YELLOW on it. But I will say this, I'll wear what ever they want if they hire me in december. But until then I will continue my purple and YELLOWless life style with a big smile on my face.

For the LSU fan's reading this let me just say that your team is looking really good right now and they are very worthy of their #2 ranking. As usual, LSU is number 2, ha ha you're number 2.
For more information on the picture above go to my blog entry from September 27, 2006.

Yes I don't understand the purple-gold vs. purple-yellow. At the same time I don't want LSU to switch to gold, so perhaps LSU and hahnville could just look at a color wheel sometime...

Don't they call gold coloured jewelery "yellow gold?"

When you watch a cartoon, a good one; let's say "Superfriends," aren't gold rings actually yellow?

The colours are practically interchangable in our society (like rifle parts, thanks to Eli Whitney). That's just the way it is...

The term yellow gold has only been used over the last few years to distiguish between gold and white gold. There is only one gold, white gold has other elemnts, namely nickel I believe, added to it to give it the "white" or "silver" colr that you see.
As for the super friends, the rings on the cartoon shows are typically much closer to a gold color than the obvious yellow worn by the "fighting le tigres".
Then of course there is the wonderful LSU mentality that says "that's just the way it is". As if to say hey! we're LS freakin' U. We are entitled to every championship, all the good recruits, all money for state schools should go to us, not the little schools. And Why? Because, "that's just the way it is..."

Thank Huey Long for LSU's dominance of the state. Only in Louisiana could a politician who's been dead for 70+ years still be running the show.

your next blog should be a tribute to the "kingfish".

LSU saved your candy ass in Fall, 2005. LSU is a wonderful institution that cares about the community at large, and the state. This state is not #50 in everything in the U.S. in large part due to LSU. And, as we gain more national attention with the Flagship agenda, Louisiana will flourish. Stop hating on LSU. It didn't hate on you when you needed them the most. Colors are trivial. Heart is what matters. LSU gave you heart, and you spit on it. Typical.

Exactly anonymous...now let's elect Walter Boasso and see how high this state can really climb.

Or sink.

You are right, LSU did take me in after Katrina. And I will say now, just as I said then, The people were as nice as can be and I greatly appreciate them for helping. BUT, answer me this. How long has LSU been working on this "flagship agenda"? What I don't understand is why it is taking the "preimere" institution in the state so long to achieve it's goal(which it is still a long way from accomplishing).
Now, I don't like to compare LSU and Alabama on my blog site because I know it is a sensitive subject to the readers that visit. But the University of Alabama is a Flagship university and they started their proccess several years after LSU and they have another major state funded institution to compete with(Auburn). So again, why is it taking LSU so long?
And LSU didn't give me their heart. LSU gave me a feebill.

LSU has always set the goal for 2010. If you were keeping up with what LSU is doing, you would know that we are making great strides in the Flagship Institution. Bama is flagship in Alabama...not quite much else there. However, LSU's goal is for national prominence, which we are making great strides. LSU delayed your feebill, and in fact, your sister-in-law (yes, me) got you housing when you so desired it on campus. People took you in, and don't for one second think that LSU wasn't the foundation for all of that. Don't go hating...

Yes, My sister-in-law got me housing on campus at LSU. I got housed because I had a connection. I made a lot of calls from LSU to get people housed, do you remember that? LSU is working towards national prominence, that's great, they should be. with all the support they get, and the lack of funding for smaller schools in the state it would make since that LSU should be the best University in the nation. BUT, it still struggles to become a flagship in a state with no other "major" universites.

My aim was not to attack LSU as an institution of higher learning. I only attack such things as sports teams and bands (things that are secondary to the purpose of the university). If you want to know my feelings on LSU as an educational facility I will be glad to share those with you, and as you know I have several other universities to compare it to. All of which would score higher in my book.
I don't hate LSU, I don't hate Louisiana. I love this place and have missed it every time I've left it. I wish this was the greatest state with the best university. But, it doesn't take a genius to see what we have here.
I understand having pride in your state, your workplace, and in your university. But what I don't understand the mentality that many LSU supporters have that LSU is the ONLY thing that matters. The combined enrollment of the other state university far exceeds the enrollment of LSU. So why do we treat LSU as if it is the only University in the state?

Feel free to respond. If I am wrong on a point please let me know. I like learning, please educate me.

You are wrong, on many counts. And, I don't mind pointing out points of excellence with our school that shows that we are heading toward national prominence, and yes, in the next coming years. First of all, I graduated, heart and soul from a regional institution. I will tell you right now that I got a great education, at a great price. I will tell you that I worked as a student and a graduate student at NSU, and except for the band and Scholars' College, NSU could never compete with LSU. Not in the state, not in the nation. Does that diminish my degree? No. And, it doesn't stop my alumni dollars from going there.

Now to LSU...We are ranked nationally in several of our programs, including the MBA program (part of national prominence and flagship is your graduate programs). We have improved our graduate assistantship programs to include competitive salaries and benefits (another distinguished feature of national flagships). Additionally, our international student enrollment continues to grow at rapid rates, and our retention rates are very high. The residential college system cannot be touched by anything in the state at this point, and we are very competitive in the nation on that regard as well, as we've won several national awards and grants for the residential college system (Bama doesn't have that at all, neither does NSU, and UNO hardly has housing). These are all things that distinguish a flagship. Are we in the 2nd tier yet? No. Are we headed there - Yes. No other university in the state can attain it. It would be impossible, even if they were funded at the highest levels. I could go on and on. And, please remember, I didn't graduate from here, but I know the facts. I've been educated in higher ed, and what makes a difference in the education, and LSU is there.

you did own an LSU shirt, and could have worn it to the school that is helping you get your teaching certificate(livelihood). If you refer to your October 24, 2006 entry you will see a picture of Sadie wearing an LSU football Tshirt. If you recall, your nieces gave you that shirt for your birthday in 2004.

Take off those Crimson glasses and actually see the truth standing in front of you. Isn't yer wife working on a PhD at LSU?

OK, in order to maintain a relationship with portions of my family, I am going to put a cap on this thread. I DID have an LSU shirt, the one my nieces gave me, However, I never wore the shirt, not even once. The shirt was donated to the goodwill in BAton rouge when we moved to the bayou. Why did I keep the shirt all that time with out ever wearing it? because I love my nieces.
Feel free to judge for yourselves the conversation that has been had here. As the comments are becoming more and more personal, I am going to say this conversation is over.
But don't worry, I'm sure I'll start more controversy soon. that would be "typical" of me.

This has been very interesting reading. College, higher learning people, knowledge, givers of words, yet consumed with bitterness. Why can't we all just get along and BE HAPPY for each others accomplishments.....
